Enormous, tiny Leif

Just after Leif was born, I was in awe that such an ENORMOUS, fully-formed human being could ever have fit inside my body. But within a few days, as the memory of labor faded from the forefront of my mind, he began to seem tinier and tinier -- when I held him, I marveled that his entire head fit easily in the palm of my hand, and when he dozed off on my chest, it occurred to me that his little warm body had just about the same heft as that of a smallish cat. I'm amazed to think that this tiny baby in a couple decades may be six feet tall (if he lives up to his name and becomes a tall, blond Scandahoovian type)! My mind wanders as I'm feeding him and I imagine his nursery transformed into the bedroom of a tall, lanky teenaged Leif. This could be the very room where he'll be sitting at his desk writing college applications in another 18 years...but then, who knows where we'll be in 18 years?
