I've been meaning to write this post for a long time, since I've gotten many more questions than I had expected about how to pronounce Leif's name. Apparently just because my elementary school teacher pronounced Leif Erikson's name "Leaf," that does not mean it is the default pronunciation -- it seems that "Layf" and even "Life" are also fairly common. We are sticking with "Leaf."
And while I am on the topic of names, dear Leif, I feel it is my motherly duty to record for posterity some of the many nicknames your dad and I have used to refer to you during these first five months of your life, so that you can be properly chagrined by them when you are 13 or so: Leify, Leifster, Bud, Buddy, Little Man, Dude, Little Dude, Babycakes (or just "Cakes" for short), Mr. Peabody (occasionally Mr. Poobody), Poopikins, Tummy Monster, and Mr. Action Pants...just to name a few!
